Description:
Camlock fittings, also known as a Cam & Groove coupling, quick hose coupling, or Camlock Coupling. The usage of camlock fittings is to connect two hoses and/or pipes together in different industries, to allow a commodity from one to be transferred to another. It is easy to use as a camlock can connect and disconnect the two halves of the joint without tools, it replaces the traditional method of installation for connecting pipe, tube or hose to reduce the time consuming. |

There are three types of commonly used material, which are aluminium (Al), stainless steel (SS316), and brass. Each of the materials types would show its distinct characteristics and you may select the type which best suits your system.
- Aluminium (Al): usually lightweight, it is an economical option to substitute some costly fittings. It is commonly applicable for water, hydraulic oil, slurry and dry powder and petroleum products as it has a good chemical resistance and abrasion resistance. Aluminium camlock are widely used in impurity pumps, general pumps, transfer pumps, IBC and storage tanks. Its working pressure depends on the temperature and size of the fittings.
- Stainless Steel (SS316): high durability and strength, it can withstand high temperatures and is highly resistant to corrosion by chemicals or liquids. Stainless steel camlocks are commonly used in the food and sanitary field. The strong resistance to most chemicals and liquids all maintain a glossy appearance. It can provide a longer service life and does not contaminate the medium being transported, however it is much more expensive when compared to other materials.
- Brass: similar to stainless steel, brass material has high resistance to damage and corrosion as stainless steel, however, brass fittings are more suitable for the shipbuilding industry as it can function well with water, coolant, gasoline, hydraulic oils, and petroleum. However, the brass camlock fittings are softer and easier to thread if compared to stainless steel. The size available is from 1/2" to 4” inch.

When choosing a proper Camlock Fittings, it is important to consider the chemical compatibility of the process fluid and process temperature. The products that we provide are made according to the Mill Spec to ensure that the male adapter and female cam coupler mate correctly.
Cam & Groove coupling is suitable for most industries, including manufacturing, agriculture, oil gas, pharmaceutical, et cetera. It is a versatile product as the no threads features allow connecting the half coupling together without causing damage or dirt to the system, thus, it is recommended for a dirty environment. Also, it is particularly suitable for situations that require replacing the hoses frequently, for example, petroleum and industrial chemical trucks.

4. Are all Camlock Fittings the same?
The camlock fittings have a variety of specifications to fit in each specific project requirement. You may consider the several fields of information required by your system or project application.
The Camlock Fittings include accessories such as pins, rings, handles and pins. The O-ring material is critical to identify the overall temperature range of the fittings. These are the O-ring materials that we offer: |

1. NBR (Buna N)
NBR is the standard sealing material for camlock coupling. The synthetic rubber is chemically resistant and has high temperature capability against neoprene. It is resistant to oil-based hydraulics fluid fats, animal and vegetable oils, grease, water, air and flame retardants.
2. EPDM
Another standard sealing material in the polypropylene camlock couplings. EPDM rubber is resistant to ozone, heat, steam, strong acid, alcohol, and alkali. Nonetheless, it is not applicable to grease, oil and aromatics.
3. Viton
It is best suited in most corrosive industries as Viton has great resistance to mineral oils, aromatic hydrocarbons, greases and special chlorinated hydrocarbons, gasoline, diesel fuel, and silicone oil. It can effectively withstand temperature, weathering and gas permeability. However iit is not suitable for anti-amine, ester, steam or low temperature environments.
4. PTFE (Telfon)
It can withstand high temperatures and has good resistance to almost all chemicals. Its flow capacity is limited, so rubber fillers must be used. The choice of filler depends on the application medium or temperature, because PTFE / FEP is microporous. In addition, these couplings have excellent anti-stick properties and are suitable for food industry applications. As the material is formed by strong intra polymer chain bonds that repel most chemicals, making them inert at high temperatures and pressures. The chemical compatibility of PTFE seats helps to ensure the resistance to various corrosive chemical cleaning agents used in the food industry.

5. How do you use a Camlock Fitting?
The assembly of a Camlock Fittings includes a male groove adapter and a female coupler. As mentioned above, you can install the fittings by hand. In order to ensure the tightness of the seal, you can depress the cam arms and compress the coupler gasket. The fittings are mainly to avoid loosening due to vibration and accidents breakage.
It is easy and quick to install Camlock Fittings. The design is intended to provide fixed and leak-proof connections for hoses and pipes. In order to ensure the effect of fluid transfer, you can refer to the following steps when connecting a set of camlock fittings:
To disconnect camlock fittings, you can refer the following step:

It is easy and quick to install Camlock Fittings. The design is intended to provide fixed and leak-proof connections for hoses and pipes. In order to ensure the effect of fluid transfer, you can refer to the following steps when connecting a set of camlock fittings:
- Pull back the lock above the cam handle horizontally and at the same time remove the handle from the coupler body to open the coupler.
- Place the adaptor plug into the coupler.
- Close the coupler by rotating the cam handle toward the coupler body. The male and female fitting is locked when the camlock handles are closed. The female coupler is fully sealed when the locking levers on both handles assemblies are sent back to the fitting body. To create extra security, insert a safety clip through the holes above the handle. Pipeline pressure will move the female coupler and male adaptor individually and ensure an increase of connection locking leverage. Safety locks are recommended to use in normal conditions. The female coupler and the male adaptor connector are used to minimize the fluid flow turbulence and the abrasion from the dry products system .
To disconnect camlock fittings, you can refer the following step:
- The hose coupling connection is depressurized before fitting disassembly process open the female coupler by pulling back both sides locking lever above the cam handlers while rotating the handles opposite position from the coupler’s body
- Take away the adaptor from the coupler.
- Rotating the handles towards the coupler’s body and locking the coupler when it is not in use to protect it from damage.
